Scottish Alternative Music Awards line-up detailed

The LaFontaines will join Brown Bear & The Bandits, Bear Arms, and Model Aeroplanes at Glasgow’s The Garage for the fifth Scottish Alternative Music Awards (Sama) ceremony on 7 March, event organisers announced today.

The awards ceremony will “[shine] the spotlight on emerging Scottish bands and artists that mainstream music tends to ignore”, and this year promises “to be the biggest celebration of home-grown alt music yet”.

Richy Muirhead, the awards’ creative director, said: “Going into year five, I think it is important to showcase acts who have previously won alongside some new faces. The line-up has to be diverse and mix genres. This year really highlights this with hip-hop, rock, and alternative all thrown into the mix!”

The 2014 awards features seven categories:

  • Best Rock / Alternative (sponsored by EmuBands)
  • Best Metal (sponsored by Cathouse Glasgow)
  • Best Acoustic (sponsored by Splitter Scotland)
  • Best Electronic (sponsored by Red Dog Music)
  • Best Live Act (sponsored by Bar Bloc)
  • Best Newcomer (sponsored by Academy Music & Sound)
  • Best Hip Hop (sponsored by CitizenM Glasgow)

The full list of nominated acts will be announced over the course of February, with a short public vote still to take place.

Tickets for the awards ceremony are available now via the Sama 14 website.
